"Bruce Wayne needs a sense of humor to do his job… Batman, for a very long time, was going to a very dark place," said Dini. The introduction of Bruce Wayne to Detective (as well as Grant Morrison's sister title Batman) has humanized both the book but also the character of Batman. "Batman is the edge or scary image for Bruce to use." The writer highlighted his decision to have Wayne doing a lot more investigative work and only bringing out Batman when necessary. "You don't have a Batman without Bruce Wayne," said Dini. One of the biggest changes was focusing on Bruce Wayne again. This involved shifting the focus of Detective.
